Sticking it to High Blood Pressure With Acupuncture
There are many approaches to treating high blood pressure. Many people choose to use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as a treatment approach. More and more physicians are incorporating lifestyle changes and integrative medicine, combining CAM and conventional medicine where their is scientific evidence for safety and effectiveness. Acupuncture has been the subject of serious, on-going research, and the evidence is now coming in.

Taking Borderline Hypertension Seriously
ABC News reports that people with borderline high blood pressure – (“pre-hypertension” - between 120/80 and 140/90) should be treated much more aggressively than previously thought. Unfortunately, there are no good studies on whether drug treatments actually will reduce heart attacks and strokes.

While the first response to the study in The Lancet would be to medicate sooner to prevent hypertension from getting worse, I think there is a real danger here to simply over-medicate. People with borderline high blood pressure should be encouraged to be more aggressive on their lifestyle choices. Exercise, get the weight down, and look at foods that may lower blood pressure naturally.
